The Federal Canada Greener Homes Grant

 

Through the Federal program, homeowners can receive up to $5,600 in retrofit initiatives when you complete your home energy assessment.

The process is simple. For eligible homeowners, the Greener Homes Grant initiative is designed to subsidize the price, encouraging homeowners to pursue renovations that cut energy costs and lower their overall greenhouse gas emissions.

 
 

Federal Canada Greener Homes Loan Program

The federal government offers an interest free loan of up to $40,000 for those eligible following the completion of your Pre-Retrofit Evaluation. With the maximum amount based on retrofits selected in your application and project quotes from contractors, the program is designed to support homeowners financially during the retrofit process.

 

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

  • There are no federal rebates for Furnace replacements, Hot Water tank, or Air Conditioning unit/ systems.

    Homeowners interested in updating their mechanical systems can update with the eligible retrofit installation of a Heat Pump system or the installation of a smart thermostat.

  • Through the Greener Homes Grant initiative, you can claim up to $600 from the government as a maximum contribution towards the total cost of your Pre- and Post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations. This will be added to your total grant amount at the end of the process. The pre- and post-retrofit evaluations must be paid for at the time of service.

  • If you wish to apply for the federal loan, this is to be done after the completion of your Pre-Retrofit Evaluation, and before the installation of any retrofits. Retrofits completed before you have submitted the loan application will not be eligible.

  • The grant amount through the federal program is per rough opening and is dependent on the efficiency of the window. It offers up to $125 for tier one or $250 for tier two per window when the efficiency standards are met. Please carefully review the grant amounts and eligibility criteria before applying for the program.

    Tier one windows must meet a U-value of 1.22 or have an Energy Rating of 34 or more.

    Tier two windows must meet a U-value of 1.05 or have an Energy Rating of 40 or more.

 

Application Steps:


  1. Confirm your eligibility

    Check that you are eligible under the program’s guidelines and the retrofits you plan to complete are on NRCan’s eligible retrofit list.


  2. Register

    Sign up on the NRCan Grant portal and select “Enervision” as your preferred Service Organization.


  3. Schedule your Pre-Retrofit Evaluation

    You must complete a Pre-Retrofit Evaluation before beginning the retrofits in order to be eligible for the grant. Contact us to book your first evaluation.


  4. Complete your retrofits

    For Grant eligibility, you must complete at least one retrofit that is both on NRCan’s eligible list and is recommended on your Renovation Upgrade Report provided by us.


  5. Schedule your Post- Retrofit Evaluation

    Once your retrofits are complete, contact us to schedule your Post-Retrofit Evaluation. This is is to validate your upgrades and show how much energy has been saved.


  6. Receive your grant

    Upload your receipts and documents to the portal and receive an claim amount from the government.
